There it was, carved on the wall of an early 16th century manor house near Chester, England.



Clearly the head-ware of this man from the tutor period marks him as a member of The Secret Society of Royal Moose (known in the US as the Moose Lodge).






I spent the next hour trying to find someone who could tell me how I could become a member, which led me to this fellow…

I assumed from his hand signaling that they were not accepting any more applications this year for The Royal Moose Society. These carvings were found on Little Moreton Hall, a lovely tutor manor house you will hear more about later. Interestingly this style of art, combining nature in unusual ways to delight, was called Grotesque. Nothing to do with Moose members I’m sure.
